Editorial: The Rudder of the Ship
Many times we have a good idea, but we wait to act because we
haven't worked out all the details. In the meantime souls are going into eternity without God.
For example, we need a follow-up program at our church. But we want to have the program perfect before we implement it.
We worry about all the details, because we all know it's the foxes who spoil the vines. We want to know who's going to be
in charge of follow-up, who's going to do the follow-up, what they should try to accomplish while they're with the new
convert, who will teach the new convert's class, who will disciple them as they begin to mature, and so on.
Sometimes, if we set something in motion, God will give us direction as we go. Something like the rudder on a ship.
The rudder can only turn the ship when it's in motion. In the same way, the Holy Spirit will guide us as we reach out
to the new converts. We can perfert the program as we go. The people in the world don't care about the perfect program.
They just want to know we're going to love them and be a better friend to them then the people in the world.
